Japan, Empire. An Order of the Rising Sun, I Class Star, c.1940 visually-hidden struck of fine Metal( Kyokujitsu sh). Instituted in 1875 by Emperor Meiji. In Silver, an eight pointed star with arms composed of three rays with cleft endings, the obverse center superposed by a white enameled insignia in silver gilt, with a central red glass cabochon, the reverse with a vertical pinback flanked by dual stays and Japanese lettering standing for Order of Merit Decoration and four central rivets, measuring 89. 4 mm (w) x 89. 1 mm (h), weighs 93. 1 grams,
